Catherine had a leading role in the development of evidence strategy and culture at Natural Resources Wales, including being Manager of the Evidence Analysis Group (2014-2019) which consisted of terrestrial, coastal, freshwater and marine specialists.  She has also advised the Natural Environment Research Council, government and others on research priorities and strategy.  For several years, she has served as one of the judges of the UK River Prize.  

Catherine has UK CEH training in evidence synthesis to inform policy and business decision-making (2021).  With staff and trustees at the North Wales Wildlife Trust (2025), she led a review of the impact of dogs on nature reserves and co-presented the findings to members.

She has extensive experience in the production of papers for the scientific literature and acts as a reviewer for a range of journals.
